Are you looking for a plant that is easy to care for and has vibrant flowers? Then amaryllis is the perfect choice for you to grow in your home or garden! The species is resistant and a symbol of elegance. In the course of the article, follow the landscaper’s tips Ana Paula Lino.

How to care for amaryllis

Amaryllis, also known as amaryllis and lily, is a hardy flower that does not require much care when planting. However, like most plants, it needs adequate nutrients to grow and develop. Below, Ana Paula Lino gives some tips that will help you in cultivation:

  • Irrigation: “Amaryllis needs to be kept slightly damp, but it does not tolerate waterlogging.” The ideal is to perform watering only when the substrate is dry.
  • Fertilizing: the specialist recommends earthworm humus or industrialized fertilizer. “The fertilization can be done once a week or every 15 days”.
  • Cultivation: “the amaryllis appreciates a well-draining, porous substrate rich in organic matter”. For pot planting, the landscaper recommends using ⅔ of topsoil, ⅓ of earthworm humus and ⅓ of perlite.
  • Brightness: “the species likes full sun, preferably morning sun. Ideally, it should receive at least 4 hours of light a day.”
  • Flowering: the plant blooms once a year during spring. To ensure flowering, it needs to receive quality fertilizer, fertile soil and good lighting.
  • Seedlings: according to Lino, it is possible to make amaryllis seedlings using the plant’s bulbs. To do this, simply cut them into up to 4 pieces and plant them in a soil composed of vermiculite. The substrate needs to be kept in a dark environment with good humidity.

They say giving someone an amaryllis means admiration. So, take advantage of the professional tips to grow beautiful flowers and give gifts to loved ones. In decoration or in the garden, the plant exudes all its glamour!

Amaryllis X Lily

According to Ana Paula Lino, amaryllis and lily have similarly shaped flowers, however, “they are completely different plants”. Amaryllis belongs to the family amaryllidacea and is originally from South America. The lily is in the family liliaceae and is native to countries in Europe and Asia.

Another aspect that differentiates the two plants is the type of climate. Amaryllis enjoys a tropical climate and can be grown in warmer regions, but it does not tolerate the cold. In contrast, the lily grows during the winter and survives the harsh temperatures.

The flowering of the two species also takes place at different times. While it is possible to admire the beauty of amaryllis during spring, lilies only bloom in mid- or late summer. If you want, you can grow both, as they are both beautiful. However, don’t forget that care is different.
