Occupying an enviable beachfront plot on the north coast of São Paulo, The Guaecá Residence was designed to accommodate two families. Created by Peloso Martinhao ArquititosThe two-storey dwelling is organized on an area of 400 square meters. The architects have integrated the common spaces and improved seven private suites to suit the needs of the twin homeowners and their guests. In addition to reconciling the overall program in the interior, the exterior of the house became an extension of the interactive spaces. The main terrace includes a pool and sun deck surrounded by a lush landscape of beautiful green mountains, while the rooftop terrace offers a spa, fire pit, and far-reaching sea views.
At the front entrance, palm trees drooping slow in the sun, on a bed of lush green earth. Brickwork and corrugated board give the house a warm appeal. Perforated aluminum sheets coat the building in a stable dark rust-like color. The material is resistant to sea breezes from the north coast of São Paulo.
A solid shutter wall around the upper floor opens in a binary arrangement. It unveils floor-to-ceiling glass windows that glaze five of the bedrooms. Cross ventilation shutters with privacy ventilation. Even while in the open position, they are used to protect sleeping quarters from the glare of direct sunlight.
Roof poles provide more shading. The projections also give the house a sharp, modern element that breaks into the clear blue Brazil skies.
A clear glass balustrade extends around the highest roofline, subtly indicating the home’s recreational area there. Families and their guests await a solarium, spa and sociable fire pit area.
Green spaces help integrate modern architecture into the environment.
Around the back of the house, retractable doors extend nearly the entire width of the building. Doors allow an indoor living space to seamlessly join the sundeck and pool.
The first view when entering the house from the front door is the bright greenery of the backyard, which looks out through the open vectors of the wooden staircase design.
The same stone that marks the exterior of the building continues inside the house to make a striking entrance. The light stonework gives the interior a wonderful light and rustic feel. Chic furniture drops into the modern element, while vases and ornate sculptures set smaller points of interest.
Accents of orange create a vibrant visual warmth within the large living room design. An orange striped living room rug is complemented by matching scattered throw pillows on the sofa. A pair of beige leather chairs face two pale beige counterparts to balance out the lounge furniture design.
The double height living room creates a connection between the two floors of the house. The double height vacuum also provides better air circulation and accepts an influx of natural light.
The wooden ceiling design adds tropical style and a sense of comfort to the noble room. The richness of wood tint has a visual warming effect on plain white wall decor, and makes the ceiling seem a little closer. Small pendant lights hang cutely in the towering expanse.
A unique wooden coffee table occupies the central place in the spacious lounge. Two modern planters and several small carvings add interesting decorations. Behind the modern upholstered chairs, a liquor cart stands ready for fun.
Next to the sofa, a square side table displays an array of candles and a decorative tray. Large-format floor tiles create a clean, cohesive flow between the lounge and dining area in the kitchen. The tiles themselves are spread out in an outdoor entertaining area beside the pool deck.
A glass-sided staircase design leads to the home’s private spaces, including two master bedroom suites and three additional bedrooms.
The second ascent of the stairs leads to the continuation of the social entertainment areas on the roof. The rooftop terrace also has the best view of the mountain and the sea.
At the back of the open plan living room, the kitchen is in a modern wooden design with a contrasting black kitchen island.
The kitchen island includes the stove, which allows the chef to chat with his guests while preparing the meal. The dining table has been lowered to accommodate the height of a regular chair. Small black kitchen pendant lights delicately surround an elegant stainless steel hood fan.
Integrated appliances intrude a wood kitchen design with more polished steel. Geometric kitchen canisters add a flash of style to open kitchen shelves.
Fully equipped to meet the needs of host families, the outdoor kitchen and dining area are well proportioned. A modern ceiling fan cools the area during hot and sunny days.
The dining area in the kitchen spills directly onto the rooftop terrace, where the outdoor lounge chairs are set in the direction of the majestic mountain view.
There is a small swimming pool along the sun deck for relaxation.
The solar panels are given part of the roof.
