Hey guys! I’m Alexandra Gater and I show you how to do rental-friendly upgrades and DIY projects on a budget. New videos every Saturday and vlogs on Wednesdays! Today, I’m showing you a couple Ikea hacks using baskets! I make a pendant light and a new coffee table for my living room. Hope you enjoy 🙂

DIY 1:

Materials:
Basket: https://fave.co/2MmY30x AF
Round Wooden Board: Lowe’s (Can’t find online)
Instructions:
Step 1: Combine and mix white wall paint and some water into a bowl. The amount of water you add will depend on how light/heavy you want the white stain to appear on the wood. Add little water for a heavier finish, add more water for a lighter finish.
Step 2: Use a paint brush to cover your table top completely. You can use a cloth to remove any excess paint.
Step 3: Using strong scissors or shears, remove the handles from the IKEA basket. This ensures that the basket is able to be flipped upside down and sit flat on the floor. You’ll need to remove the wicker wrapping as well as the nail keeping the handle to the rest of the basket.
Step 4: Flip your basket upside down so you can adhere the wooden round to the top. I used a construction-grade hot glue gun/hot glue but you can also use wood glue for this step. Apply hot glue to the top of the basket and add the wooden round on top, applying pressure so it sticks. If need be, take your hot glue gun to add more glue to the gaps in the spaces between the basket and wooden round.
DIY 2:
Materials:
Basket: https://fave.co/3fF6C1V AF
Pendant light: https://amzn.to/2Unyf7U (Out of stock) AF
Alternative pendant light: https://fave.co/2V0auTz AF
Instructions:
Step 1: Remove the bulb from the pendant light and use the socket to trace a circle at the bottom of the basket (or the top if it is flipped upside down).
Step 2: Using strong scissors or shears, cut out a hole into the basket. This step can be challenging and time consuming, patience is key!
Step 3: Push the pendant light through the basket, screw the light bulb back in and plug it in!
